A Journey to Now

My intention in writing A Journey to Now was to organize an extraordinary philosophy that would give you an opportunity to explore how that philosophy impacts issues in your life that contaminate your journey. If there are aspects of the philosophy that appeal to you, I have designed a training program/system that will help you transform those words/ideas into an experience/a way of being/a way of living in your world.

I am fascinated and humbled by the complexity of consciousness. I have spent my professional life trying to put some handles on a topic that has no handles. So I have written this book with a humility constantly reminding me there is no Truth, no right way, no best way to proceed on this journey.

So, I believe we are left with finding our path, the way that works for us. And what excites me is an ongoing curiosity about my own path discovering each day how fluid that path can be and how if I were to write on this topic again, it would be somewhat different and hopefully more helpful to me and to you.

To assist in sharing this philosophy and the integration process, I created Tess Angelina, a combat helicopter pilot who brings to Howard Kingston, her therapist, her story of pain and suffering related to the mental and physical trauma of her experiences in Afghanistan.

Tess brings lots of psychological challenges to the therapy experience. She has a scar on her face and lost the ear behind that scar due to a mortar explosion. In addition, she suffers from flashbacks, panic attacks, anger, nightmares, a drinking problem, self-pity, a racing mind, out of control life, hopelessness, insomnia, worry and exaggerated startle response.

Howard guides her through an exploration of the philosophy and a training experience designed to help her discover how to find freedom from her pain and suffering and to help her transform her moments into something fresh and new. She is not ready to accept his approach which challenges her to make changes that seem too extreme and unrealistic for the world in which she lives.

If you are interested in exploring the pages of this book, I hope you will take your own curiosity along with you. “What/who has the rudder of my ship? Through what lens do I take my daily experiences? In what ways do I want to change that part of my lens that is not working? How do I do that? How do I empower those changes in my lens to come alive in my daily life?”

This book, inspired by some of the great minds of our time, offers us a new way of being. It offers a new state of energy, vitality and wisdom that frees us from the confines of our egoic mind which is the root of discontent, fear, anger, racism, greed and the chains of selfishness.
